Interview: Filling in the Blanks of Love with Ineffa Lucas’ ‘the world is…’

Writer: Komal GuptaKomal Gupta

“The galaxy rains as the stars are parading”—with this dreamy, almost celestial imagery, “Beautiful With You” sweeps listeners into a love story that feels boundless and radiant. In contrast, “One Deadly Thing” unravels the darker edges of devotion, where love teeters between something enchanting and something perilous.

Together, these two tracks form the world is…, a project that doesn’t define love in simple terms but instead embraces its contradictions—the light and the shadow, the fantasy and the fallout.

Ineffa Lucas, a South Korean artist based in New Zealand, released the world is…(feat. SEZI) on February 19. Written by both artists, the two-track project unfolds like a cinematic journey through love’s beauty. SEZI’s soulful vocals thread through both songs, deepening their emotional resonance.

Beautiful With You (feat. SEZI)” feels like a gentle confession wrapped in stardust—soft, intimate, and glowing with warmth. It’s the warmth of a quiet moment, the kind of love that doesn’t need grand gestures—just the simple, undeniable magic of being together.

One Deadly Thing (feat. SEZI),” on the other hand, is the kind of love story that flickers between a dream and a warning. It’s intense, the type of devotion that can consume or complete you. It’s the kind of connection that feels destined yet fragile, where devotion comes with unseen risks, and staying by someone’s side means embracing both the light and the dark.

The contrast between the two tracks makes the world is… feel even more alive—love in its purest form and the weight it can carry. Like an unfinished sentence, the title leaves room for interpretation, inviting listeners to fill in their own meaning.

The album cover feels like a nostalgic scrapbook, blending childhood memories with a cinematic touch. Vintage-style photos of Ineffa Lucas and SEZI as children, playful doodles, and handwritten text create a sense of innocence and warmth.

Mido spoke with Ineffa Lucas about his latest release, the world is…(feat. SEZI), his collaboration with SEZI, and the inside story behind the two tracks.

Q: Please introduce yourself to Mido readers.

Hey, I’m Ineffa Lucas, a South Korean musician currently based in Auckland, New Zealand. I specialize in pop, rock, and R&B and am signed to Are.A Entertainment

Q: The title of this project, the world is…, feels like an open-ended statement.

What’s the significance behind it? How do these two tracks complete the

sentence?

The title the world is… intentionally leaves the sentence open-ended, inviting listeners to reflect on their own interpretations and experiences. Both tracks offer a perspective, encouraging a personal journey to complete the phrase, but for me, the titles of each track complete the sentence, capturing the pure, innocent feeling of someone falling in love for the first time.

Q: Was there a specific moment—whether in a conversation, a memory, or even something random—that sparked the first idea for either song?

There wasn’t just one specific moment, it was more like a mix of different feelings and memories. I wanted to capture that first-time kind of love, where even the smallest things feel huge, whether it be a conversation, a certain look, or just a random thought that stuck with me. Everything sort of came together quite naturally to shape the songs.

Q: “The galaxy rains as the stars are parading.” This line in “Beautiful With You” creates a sense of vastness and wonder. If love in this song had its own

weather—shaped by its emotions and how it unfolds—what kind of forecast

would it bring?

I usually love using the stars, skies, rain, and galaxies in my lyrics to express emotions, and “The galaxy rains as the stars are parading” was meant to capture that dreamy, otherworldly celebration. It’s about love feeling so big, like the whole universe is celebrating it, something magical and surreal.

Q: “One Deadly Thing” feels like a legend in itself. What kind of myth or folklore do you think this song would inspire?

That’s a great question, and I never really thought about it like that. Honestly, I’m not really sure, but I’d love to hear what kind of story the listeners imagine when they hear it.

Q: "Can I paint a little red, a little glitter on our story?" This lyric evokes a sense of transformation and embellishment. When creating “One Deadly Thing,” what colors and textures painted the emotional landscape of the song in your mind?

That’s a bit of a secret, it was my own way of interpreting emotions of love through colors and visuals. But I feel like sharing my interpretation might limit how others can experience it and create their own meanings from it.

Q: These songs feel deeply cinematic, like scenes waiting to be filmed. If the world is… became a short film, what would be the opening shot, and how would it all end?

Again, this one is a bit of a secret too. There’s definitely a clear image in my head of how I see these songs visually, but I really want listeners to create their own vision based on their own interpretations and experiences. It was a key challenge for me to write these songs, allowing listeners to picture them in their own ways.

Q: SEZI is a key presence in both tracks, almost like a thread tying them together. How did her presence influence the way this project took shape?

I absolutely love SEZI’s voice, and it felt like the perfect match for the songs I had written. Working with her was amazing, and we came up with so many great ideas that turned into something beautiful. I really want more people to hear her music and see where her journey takes her because she’s got so much to offer.

Q: Beyond just the lyrics, the production itself seems to carry an emotional weight—whether it’s the way a melody lingers or how an instrumental swell feels like a heartbeat. How did you craft the sonic textures to enhance the emotions behind these songs?

I wanted the production to really match the vibe of the lyrics. Writing melodies that linger and instrumentals that hit like a heartbeat were a main focus point in this album. It’s mainly all about making the sound feel as emotional as the words.

Q: What’s next for you?

I’d love to collaborate with more amazing musicians I admire, just like I did with SEZI on the world is… especially artists I really feel like I could connect with. Also, I’m planning to do my own headlining show in Auckland one last time, before I take on the challenge of going overseas and seeing what’s out there.

Q: Any last message for Mido readers?

It’s been a real pleasure to meet you all today. I’ve got some beautiful music coming soon, some on my own and some with some of your favorite artists, so stay tuned for what’s coming next! Thank you for having me, and please continue to support me throughout my journey. I’ll make you proud.
